Summer 2026 Build Contest – Roads, Tunnels, and Canals!

It has been a while, but it is time to bring back our build contests with a bang!

We will be celebrating this summer with an infrastructure build contest – Roads, Tunnels and Canals.

The Roads and Canals build contest is to get players thinking about transportation networks besides railways. This means emphasis is not necessarily in a huge, flashy single building, but instead a pretty transportation concept that could be extended very long distances in the future.

To participate in this build contest, build a road segment that leads to a channel of water, clears the span of water with a bridge, and continues on to the into a tunnel at least 15 blocks long. The water itself is part of the build contest – it should be in some way modified from natural world generation (or built from scratch) into an artificial Canal.

Build Contest Rules

  • The road must extend at least 30 blocks in either direction from the ends of the bridge
  • The bridge must cross a water channel at least 5 blocks wide (although wider is encouraged)
  • The water channel must be in some way modified from natural world generation (straightened, bricks, lighting, ect underwater)
  • It must be possible to ride a horse down your road, over the bridge, and into the tunnel (so the tunnel must have a clearance of at least 3 blocks)
  • It must also be possible to ride a boat along the canal and under the bridge

Judgement Criteria

  1. Meet all of the contest rules to qualify
  2. Leveraging common/renewable blocks over very expensive flashy blocks is preferred (no roads built entirely of gold blocks, please)
  3. Bonus points for inclusion of blocks from the Chaos Cubed update (sulfur, cinnabar, hot springs) – so get exploring to find some!

Prizes

All eligible submissions will win a book of Wind Burst 2. The top 3 finalists will also win an unbreakable golden shovel.
